A garden within a garden and located to the north of Wanfang Anhe Hall, this spot was built in 1720 (58th year of Emperor Kangxi's reign), artistically conceived of a well-known Chinese utopia from the story "Peach Blossom Garden" by the Jin-dynasty writer Tao Yuanming (365-427 AD). Hence its original name, Peach Blossom Dock. It served as a residence and study for Emperor Qianlong when he was crown prince. During the garden's heyday, thousands of peach trees bloomed, a dazzling scene enhanced by an interesting cave built of bizarre-shaped stones to the southeast. Visitors could take a boat up the stream, cross the Peach Blossom Cave and enter the paradise-like Peach Blossom Garden.
