This sight was built as a replica of its
namesake at the West Lake in Hangzhou. Located in the west
of the northern bank of the Fuhai Lake, it was completed in
1728 (7th year of Emperor Yongzheng's reign). To the east
was the Five-Arch Bridge and a square pavilion with a double-eaved
roof. A horizontal board reading "Shuangfeng Chayun" (Twin
Peaks Piercing the Clouds) was hung across the top. The waterfront
courtyard in the southwest was first built in 1811 (16th year
of Emperor Jiaqing's reign), then renovated into a large hall
with a three-ridge roof and a horizontal board inscribed with
"Mirroring the Faraway Island." Emperor Jiaqing composed poems
in praise of this scene several times.
The foundation of the hall has been excavated,
the Twin Peaks Piercing the Clouds Pavilion, and the Five-Arch
Bridge have been restored.
